Back in the groove with work… holidays are officially over and I’m in full swing. Weather covers, sheets and upholstery – from a 62’ catamaran to a 120’ ISA – clients are sprucing up their vessels. Though I was not able to attend the Winter Market at DCOTA this month, I wanted to share some notes I took at one of the last seminars I attended…
The function of design has morphed from doing to knowing. Access to luxury items has become somewhat passe as everyone can buy everything (thank you internet). No longer purchasing agents with exclusive access, we have become knowledge providers. The value of the design and décor experience may be considered worth more than the products themselves. We guide, we advocate, we collaborate, we advise, we curate and we act as concierge. Decorating is fun and yes, I consider myself a decorator. Just as important though, I consider myself a resource and a knowledge base for my clients and colleagues. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I take pride in being a service provider and getting the job done!
