Nothing like a bit of manual labor and exposure to the actual growing of food to encourage awareness and appreciation in the next generation. Here are my two boys and my partner on our annual trip to Homestead in January. First stop is Knaus Berry Farm for sticky buns. They are the best as they are warm, sweet and sticky – fresh from the oven. We then go to Banjong Orchid growers and see which beauties to add to our collection of orchids. Finally we stop at one of the U-Pik farms and pick tomatoes and strawberries. I think these fresh picked fruits are even better than the sticky buns!
I also visited the Las Vegas Market for the first time. I’ve been to AmericasMart in Atlanta for several years now and thought I would go west. Aside from LOTS of mattress companies, I did find some new resources for hand-crafted wallcovering, alpaca throw pillows (so luxurious), melamine dinnerware (for breakfast or casual lunches on board) and Duke Cannon Big A** Bricks of Soap (perfect for my side gig, The Present Situation – men like gifts too). Though I spent most of my time at the World Market, I did walk The International Builder Show, as well as the Kitchen and Bath Show, all of which were part of Design & Construction Week in Las Vegas.
